This data below is taken from the Syringe Clean Up Project started in the Kensington area of Philadelphia, PA. The project, which ran from 3/18/18-3/21/20, was completely volunteer based all of whom were active drug users of all kinds.
This purpose of this project was to remove thousands of extremely hazardous syringes from low-income areas, commonly overlooked by City of Philadelphia cleaning services.
Through observation , education, and participating in this action we were able to invalidate the city’s narratives surrounding drug users which undermines our humanity and autonomy to contribute to our society in a positive manner.
This project received no financial assistance from the City of Philadelphia in the effort to remove disease spreading syringes from multiple black and brown working class neighborhoods.
